Greetings from the Royal Cliff Wine Club!
Fresh from hosting a successful gala dinner recently, the Royal Cliff Wine Club is scheduled to host another premier event. And it is with great pleasure that I would like to invite everyone to a forthcoming Chilean Winemaker’s Gala Dinner on 14 July 2005 in the Grand Ballroom of the Royal Cliff Grand.
Showcased on this sterling event are the wines of the celebrated Baron Philippe de Rothschild wines in Chile.
Ancestry of Mouton Rothschild wine dynasty dates back to 1853, when Baron Nathaniel, one of the sons of Baron Nathan bought Château Brane Mouton, an estate in Pauillac in the heart of Médoc and gave it his own name - Château Mouton Rothschild.
When Baron Nathaniel died in 1870, his son Baron James and grandson Baron Henri in turn inherited the property but neither showed much interest in the art of wine making. In 1922, at the age of 20 Philippe de Rothschild, the youngest son of Baron Henri took the destiny of Mouton in hand and in just two years revolutionized the method of bottling and labeling the wines that many other great Bordeaux châteaux would follow.
From then on the Baron Philippe de Rothschild brand has been motivated by a constant ambition: to make the world's finest wines, each in its own category, whether the châteaux wines for which it is responsible – the renowned Château Mouton Rothschild, a First Growth, and its distinguished lieutenants, Château Clerc Milon and Château d'Armailhac – or branded wines, like the famous Mouton Cadet.
It was in 1979 that the Baron Philippe de Rothschild brand began its international conquest. Already established as one of the premier wineries in the great Bordeaux region, the winery soon started exporting its wine-making know-how to other areas beginning with a partnership with legendary winemaker Robert Mondavi of Napa Valley, California.
The brand thereafter planted its flag in Chile after forging a venture with another renowned brand, the Concha y Toro. Based in Puente Alto, the winery produces the Almaviva brand. Baron Philippe de Rothschild also produces the Escudo Rojo in Maipo, Chile.
Notable Chilean varietals include; Reds - Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère; Whites - Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay.
One of the key factors behind the company's undisputed success is the art of blending, which it practises with exceptional skill. Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, the majority shareholder of Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA, works closely with the executive directors to maintain, modernise and develop the family business.
