In November 2001, the Royal Cliff Beach Resort is
preparing to unveil for a second time the resort property’s flagship
hotel: the all-suites Royal Wing & Spa.
Originally opened in late 1986 by His Royal Highness Crown Prince
Maha Vajiralongkorn, the hotel is now in the final stages of a
renovation and improvement project worth Thai Baht 160 million (US$
3.55 million). Due to
the magnitude of the project, the hotel has been closed since the
beginning of May 2001.

The
Royal Wing & Spa boasts 84 Royal Wing Suites and 2 three-bedroom
Presidential Suites, none of which have been left untouched during the
past few months. Every
suite at the hotel has undergone a major upgrade with all being stripped
bare completely at the start of the improvement project.
New Royal Wing Suites now boast a completely redesigned interior
with larger bathrooms, luxurious amenities and state-of-the-art in-room
facilities. A special
feature of the bathrooms is a circular Jacuzzi bath in addition to a
walk-in shower. Each suite
also has two seaview balconies, one furnished with sunbeds.

Formerly known as the Royal Wing, the addition of a luxurious and fully-equipped spa facility on the second floor of the hotel has given rise to a name change for the hotel in the process. Managing Director of the Royal Cliff Beach Resort, Panga Vathanakul, feels the concept of the Royal Wing lends itself perfectly to the inclusion of a spa facility within. “From the very beginning we have considered the Royal Wing to be in a class of it’s own—the ultimate holiday retreat where we provide our guests with the highest standards of service and facilities and at the same time they are given a very high degree of privacy and exclusivity from the very moment they enter the doors to the hotel. With this in mind, relaxation and rejuvenation are key elements of the Royal Wing and a health spa facility helps take this concept one step further.” She goes on to mention that, “Rooms on an entire floor of the Royal Wing & Spa have been converted to ‘stress-less’ rooms. These specialised rooms offer guests with a number of unique features such as non-fat food items and low-calorie beverages; specially-shaped pillows for easy-breathing and relaxation; and CDs and videos to aid in meditation.” The improvement work done on the Royal Wing & Spa also encompasses the hotel’s lobby, swimming pool and gardens. The lobby has been redecorated and the areas surrounding the hotel’s exclusive pool have been repaved and relandscaped. Mrs. Vathanakul adds, “The Royal Wing & Spa pool has always been a special feature for our guests, each of whom can reserve sunbeds with personalised brass name tags on them. It may be attributed to the exclusivity since even guests at the three other hotels within the property cannot use the pool, or perhaps it’s due to the natural beauty of the surroundings, or a combination of both. Whatever the case may be, once we planned this project we intended to improve in every area—even those that were already impressive before the project began.” |
