Prince Mahidol Award Conference on world health issues at Royal Cliff Hotels Group & PEACH convention centre

The prestigious Prince Mahidol Award Conference was held at The Royal Cliff Hotels Group from 27 – 31 January 2014. The conference theme “Transformative learning for health equity” highlights the need and opportunity for continued improvement of the health professional education in order to keep pace with the scientific, social and economic changes transforming the healthcare environment to further advance the health equity agenda. In addition to improving the education the event aims to promote the importance of ensuring that health professionals worldwide deliver better health care services in response to the changing health needs of communities in every corner across the globe.
Over 700 renowned medical professionals, business leaders and top political figures worldwide convened at Royal Cliff Hotels Group including Dr. Jim Yong Kim (The President of World Bank Group, Dr. Vicharn Panich (Chairman of The Prince Mahidol Award Foundation), Dr. Julio Frenk (Dean, Harvard School of Public Health, USA and Former Secretary of Health of Mexico) and Mr. Keizo Takemi (Member of House of Councillors and Former Senior Vice Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare, Japan). The opening ceremony was presided by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

In his speech during the Gala dinner Dr. Jim Kim, president of the World Bank Group was very pleased that this prestigious event was held at Royal Cliff and thanks the organizers for inviting him as one of the speakers. “I feel like I am at the academy awards. The environment is spectacular. I would like to give special thanks to Dr. Vicharn for bringing us to this stunningly beautiful place.”
The general objective of the annual Prince Mahidol Award International Conference is to bring together leading public health leaders and stakeholders from around the world to discuss high priority global health issues, summarize findings and propose concrete solutions. It aims at being an international forum that Global Health Institutes, both public and private, can co-own and use for the advocacy and the seeking of international advices on important global health issues.
The Prince Mahidol Award was established in 1992 to commemorate the 100th birthday anniversary of Prince Mahidol of Songkla, who is recognized by the Thais as ‘The Father of Modern Medicine and Public Health of Thailand’.
The conference is co-hosted by 8 organizations, namely the Prince Mahidol Award Conference, the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Bank, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Rockefeller Foundation and the China Medical Board (CMB), with the support from other key related partners.
