2011 Asian Golf Monthly Awards held at Pattaya Exhibition and Convention Centre (PEACH)

The ‘2011 Asian Golf Monthly Awards’ was held at Pattaya Exhibition and Convention Centre (PEACH), a prominent feature of the Royal Cliff Hotels Group, which is currently hosting the 5th Edition of the Asia Pacific Golf Summit and part of the week-long golf carnival in Pattaya, Thailand. An exceptional component of the summit, the Asian Golf Monthly Awards is in its 12th year and is the region’s premier poll of golfing facilities with votes being cast in a total of 28 categories.

The results were based on online votes of readers of Asian Golf Monthly, and for 2011, a 24-strong panel of industry players located around the region with vast knowledge of the golfing facilities were pulled in with their combined input accounting for 25% of the overall voting.

A Gala Dinner was organized where PEACH featured a presentation of delicious cuisine and dazzled the attendees with their 5-star high-quality service and superb arrangements.  The evening’s entertainment included colourful dance and radiant theatrical performances. Distinguished attendees included  Royal Cliff Hotels Group’s Managing Director Mrs. Panga Vathanakul, Mr. Suraphon Svetasreni Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, all-time American tennis great Jimmy Connors and two-time major champion Tony Jacklin of England.

In recognition of his achievements and constant support of the golf world, Tony Jacklin received an Asia Pacific Lifetime Achievement Award.  Tennis legend Jimmy Connors was also presented with the Asia Pacific Excellence in Sports Award, and South African star Gary Player was featured on a video feed making an acceptance speech after being inducted into the Asia Pacific Golf Hall of Fame.

Thailand’s many fantastic golf courses were also awarded during this event.  The nation’s most outstanding clubs such as the Black Mountain Golf Club, Thai Country Club, Banyan Golf Club, Siam Country Club and Suwan Golf and Country Club were among the evening’s privileged recipients; with the Hua Hin’s Black Mountain voted Best Championship Course in Asia Pacific as well as Best Course in Thailand.

Managing Director of Royal Cliff Hotels Group Mrs. Panga Vathanakul was on stage as part of the elite Thai representatives receiving the award for ‘Best Golf Destination’ in Asia-Pacific, a title that the nation proudly maintains.
