A young yet dynamic element of the Royal Cliff team, Chef Romano hails from the fascinating suburbs of Berlin. He studied the culinary arts and was the youngest student to graduate in 2009 at the age of 19. Fluent in both English and German, his previous work experience includes working for 5-star hotels in different countries such as the Grand Hyatt in Dubai, Siam Kempinski in Bahrain and China as well as Mövenpick in Ghana. His wide ranging experience, exceptional talent and ardent passion for his craft make him the perfect chef to oversee the award-winning Royal Grill Room and Wine Cellar - Excellence and Heritage.


Where does your passion for cooking come from?

PASSION. It's such an emotional word. Finding your passion unlocks prosperity and abundance.

My Grandma told me when I was 5 years old that one of the most important things in life is to find something you are passionate about and make it a career you love. This way, you actually feel like you are not literally 'working' a day in your life.

Working as a professional chef is still my passion and I still wake up every day excited about my job.

What does it take to be a Chef?

Passion, passion, passion! Being a chef is great; you get to be creative, intense, motivated, patient but you have to love cooking, not just like cooking.

Being a chef is all I have ever dreamed of since I was 11 - in my 8th grade yearbook, you can even find "to be a chef" under my future occupation.


What do you like most about being a Chef?

I enjoy how food makes people happy. I like watching their faces as they eat what I have made.

I also believe that the taste of some dishes can actually bring back some memories of your childhood. For example, I still remember the smell of the pot roast that my grandma used to make together with her delicious freshly baked Apple pie.

I want my guests to experience these unique memories too.

For every dish you make, what is your goal?

That is really hard to say – taste, beauty and fragrance must be perfectly matched together.

A famous chef, Anthony Bourdain, was searching for the perfect meal around the world and was writing a book about it. He said that it's s almost impossible to find the "Perfect Dish"

As a passionate chef, I believe that the goal must be to look for the perfect dish and to create one that is perfectly matched to satisfy all human senses.


What is your signature dish?

Wow, I think there are too many.

I am really proud of my Tournedos Rossini.

The dish comprises beef tournedos pan-fried in butter, served on a crouton and topped with a hot slice of fresh whole foie gras. The dish is garnished with slices of black truffle and finished with a Madeira demi-glace sauce.


What do you like doing on your free time?

My biggest passion apart from cooking is American Football. I also played for a couple of years during my high school. I am a big supporter of the New England Patriots and don't miss any of their games.

Can you tell our readers something cool about being a Chef that most people don't know about?

We really don't yell and throw things; we are compassionate people that just strive for everyone to be at their best. It's not the same as what you see on TV. It's a hard competitive field and if you are not trying to be the best, someone else is.
